I play the game, “4 pics 1 Word” a lot. But I noticed something. Whenever I get stuck at a particular level I usually decide to log out and attempt to focus on other things.
Immediately I log out, in ten seconds or less they send me an alphabet hint that would lure me back and before you know it, I find myself back again, almost like a zombie. And the process repeats itself. Haaaa.
These guys know what they are doing. The frustration of you getting stuck at a particular level might make you abandon the game…but they want you to stay. Your staying is where their money is. So what do they do? They entice you again, by dropping hints.
That is exactly how sin is. After you might have experienced one or two consequences of your actions, and you swear you will never repeat that thing, then boom, it comes again in another subtle form. And before you know it, you are back again.
Haven’t you seen people masturbate or fornicate, and cry afterwards? They don’t want what they are doing, but there’s something hooking them that makes them seem helpless.
How about the moment you decide you want to be celibate or stay away from relationships because it seems you have no control over your sexual urges anymore, then suddenly that fine girl–fine boy that has not been giving you attention before now shows ups. And the cycle continues.
I can go on and on sharing examples of these strategies, but the central focus is, SIN WANTS YOU HOOKED! Sin has no power over its consequences, its responsibility is to keep you trapped, and if you are not discerning enough, you won’t even notice.
But today, help has come! There’s power in the cross of Jesus that will enable you to say NO to ungodliness and fruitless works of darkness.
Oh you don’t have to be trapped. You don’t have to be a slave, there’s liberation in the blood if you can surrender it all to Him.
That addiction is not more than you, it is not your master. It only became a master because you gave it power, but today, right now, power can change hands.
Take a moment and surrender it all to Jesus. You know the emptiness you feel after falling again–and again. But the last time can be the last. Jesus is saying come, I want to help you. I want to empower you. I have sufficient grace for you. I have strength for you. Common, help is here! Jesus is here! If you let Him!
